An early season friendly
against local rivals Staines was always going to be a tough match and when
An early well-worked try by
Twickenham made a couple of
early substitutions with a plan to rotate the squad and early in the second
quarter Jay Whelan who had just come on, scored in the corner. No further
points were scored in the first half and Twickenham led by 12 – 5 going into the
second half.
Further substitutions were
made at half time by both teams, unfortunately the early rhythm had disappeared
and in the following 18 minutes Twickenham conceded 17 points and 6 penalties.
Twickenham made a valiant
effort in the 4th quarter to claw back the points needed but fell
short, despite an excellent try by James Stone.
There were many positives to
be gained from this match, new players fitted in well, players were playing new
positions and we had won 3 of the 4 quarters played,
only losing the 3rd quarter having made numerous changes at half
time. Lawrence and the other coaches were far from disappointed despite losing
and have identified a number of areas to be worked on this Wednesday.
